Davidoff Vintage 2000 Panetela Extra (2003)

Davidoff Vintage 2000Size: 6.25 x 40

Vitola: Panetela

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sun Grown

Origin: Dominican Republic

So I got this from my buddy Hal, who is the proud new proprietor of Capital City Cigars (Raleigh, NC).  This was part of his MAJOR collection of cigars and one of his personal favorites.

This cigar was made in 2003 and was the second of Davidoff‘s yearly Limited Edition smokes.  Here’s a blurb on the cigar from Davidoff.com, “The Davidoff Limited Edition 2003 is the first cigar from the house of Davidoff that is rolled using tobaccos from one, single crop the harvest of the year 2000. During the winter of 1999/2000, the tobacco plants cultivated in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador flourished in perfect weather conditions. Characterised by an exceptionally aromatic quality, the tobaccos harvested in this particular year were predestined to become vintage cigars in the Davidoff Limited Edition 2003. These noble tobaccos are rolled in the shape of a stately, yet elegant Panetela Extra format.”

To say this was a good cigar would be a vast understatement.

What hit me first was the dark color and flawless wrapper.  I knew I was in for a treat!

The cigar had a nice draw for a panetela and the initial flavor was an overwhelming woodiness with a rich tobacco core.  Touches of pepper came in and out through the smoke as it developed into a nice creamy medium strength/full body smoke.  This is definitely not your father’s Davidoff!

As I enjoyed this smoke, which like all Davidoffs needs to be sipped, I couldn’t help but think how good a Davidoff cigar would be if the Cuban Embargo was lifted and the Davidoff famliy and Henke Kelner were allowed to get their hands on some Cuban tobacco!

Truly this was one of the better smokes I have tried in a long time!
