Ah, the Anejo. Long sought after for it’s… long sought after-ness. The Arturo Fuente Anejos are limited releases, usually made available around Father’s Day and Christmas and are always a tough thing to find. The Fuente Whores love them. I had a pretty large collection of these for a while and I put them away to be smoked at a later date. Guess that time is now.
Okay, the big deal with the Anejo, or part of the mystique, is that supposedly it is an oppose cigar with a Maduro wrapper. OK…
This cigar is firm to the touch, but takes a light easy and the draw is relatively easy with a punch cut.
The first thing I taste id the filler. It’s spicy and leathery with a hint of wood. The spiciness is a weird type of spiciness, as it coats the tongue for quite a while. To me these cigars have zero complexity. Taste the same throughout the whole smoke.
After a while I still taste the filler, even though, double-checking, that my mouth is in fact on the wrapper.
Halfway through the cigar there is still the taste of the filler and now the taste of tar as it has accumulated at the head. Yummy (sarcasm).
So with a third left I’m tossing this puppy as I don’t particularly like the taste of tar and I have yet to taste anything resembling Maduro flavors.
Not sure what gets the Fuente Whores all excited about these cigars. Oh well, at least they have one less person to compete against.
