The name Pinar del Rio invokes one thought in my mind… “Cuban cigars”. And this is the very thing Abraham Flores and Juan Rodriguez were trying to capture in their two lines for Pinar del Rio cigars, named after the famous valley in Cuba where the best tobacco in the world is grown.
Pinar del Rio Habano Sun Grown – this leathery cigar is available in 4 sizes with a Habano Sun Grown wrapper.
Pinar Del Río Habano Sun-Grown showcases a rich Habano wrapper that laces the palate with rich flavor. The wrapper is a reminder of the great wrappers grown in Pinar Del Río, Cuba; wrappers that are deep red-brown in tone.

Pinar del Rio Oscuro – this tasty cigar is available in 4 sizes featuring a rich Habano Oscuro wrapper.
Pinar Del Río Oscuro is rolled for the dark wrapper enthusiast. Utilizing a maduro wrapper leaf, Oscuro is a strong cigar that is supremely clean, a rare feat that is seldom accomplished by cigar factories today.

The cigars are made at the Don Leoncio factory in Nicaragua. Here’s an excerpt from their website in which they describe the factory:
Tabacos Don Leoncio, S.A., has an 80-year-old history within its hallowed halls. Headed by Abraham Flores and the brothers Rodriguez, La Fabrica Don Leoncio hires only the most experienced rollers and it shows in the quality of every cigar.
Each puro is delicately handcrafted that results in a cigar of supreme construction. The tabaco leaves used in every blend is of the highest quality and the refined finish is a testament to the attention given to every leaf that passes through the doors of Don Leoncio.
Now in its 5th year of independent operation, Flores y Rodriguez are proud to present to you the jewels of La Fabrica.

As always, thanks for the hard work and passion that you put into the site. Many cigar smokers such as myself love the site and get a lot of great info here. But, I have to say, the Pinar del Rio Oscuro is one of the most over rated/hyped cigars that I have ever smoked. I bought several of them about a month ago and have smoked 3 of them and the only things I can say about them is:
They are very ashy(sp)
The draw is poor
You can count on having to relight them often
I can’t really tell what they are supposed to tast like because of item 2 and 3 above.
I still have 5 left and will update you on how things go. I must have delved into a bad box. How else could there be so many good comments about this cigar.
Right now I would say that these are two steps above a Dutch Masters!!!!
Tx
Thanks Derek. Dave gave me a PdR Exclusivo the other week that was pretty tasty, but yeah the Oscuros have been lacking recently i agree.
